Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us at jonbcounseling@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question!

What kinds of therapy do you offer?

We offer traditional (office-based) and adventure therapy for individuals and groups. Both in-person and virtually. We also offer guided adventures that are not strictly treatment focused.

What age groups do you work with?

We work with ages 7 years old and above.

What is Adventure Therapy?

Adventure Therapy is a type of experiential therapy that engages clients through the purposeful use of adventure activities, challenges and initiatives. Adventure Therapy uses experiences to help facilitate the therapeutic relationship and assist individuals in engaging in the therapeutic process.

What activities are involved in Adventure Therapy?

Adventure Therapy can include hiking, orienteering, rock climbing, creeking, fishing, shelter building, etc. There are many activities done outside that can be used in Adventure Therapy. Simply walking or sitting outside can be effective as well.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept the following insurances: UPMC, Highmark BC/BS, Aetna, United/OPTUM, Cigna/Evernorth.

*Currently, Adventure Therapy is not eligible for insurance reimbursement and is therefore out of pocket. See rates listed below.

What should I expect in my first session?

In your first session, we'll discuss your history, challenges and what you're looking for from therapy. This session is about getting to know you and why you are coming to therapy.

What does "faith-based" mean?

Faith-based refers to integrating faith intentionally into session along with other traditional or adventure therapy techniques. This often includes your spirituality and or religious beliefs. Therapy is about you, we will only incorporate this into therapy if you choose to and it will be according to your beliefs, etc., not mine.

Are there benefits to paying out of pocket rather than using insurance?

When you pay directly for therapy, your insurance company does not have access to your mental health records, length of treatment would be your choice and your therapist would be fully reimbursed.  See rates listed below.
